Awareness during the Orientation Week

We’re here for you!

Do you need help, feel uncomfortable, or have you experienced or witnessed inappropriate, discriminatory or boundary-violating behaviour? Please contact the Awareness Team at any time. We will listen to you, take your needs seriously and support you in a way that is impartial and focused on your needs. No further action will be taken without your consent.

You’ll recognise us by our purple high-visibility vests. You’ll find us on campus and in the AStA wing during Orientation Week.

On Monday, October 5, 2026 we will allso be available to assist you in a room in building A14.

What is an Awareness-Team and why is it important?

An awareness team is a group of at least two people. It provides a service so that, in a situation where you feel uncomfortable or have experienced a breach of boundaries, you have people you can turn to straight away. The team is aware of various forms of oppression, such as sexism, racism, homophobia and ableism, and is itself as diverse as possible. It may not always be possible to have the right point of contact for everyone, but in any case we are here to listen and have contact details and some resources ready for you.

What is a Safer Space?

A ‘safer space’ refers to a room that serves as a place of refuge. There you will find seating and a range of items to help you in an emergency, such as water, glucose tablets, tissues and contact details. You can also speak to the Awareness Team there. The people available there as points of contact are aware of various mechanisms of oppression (see Awareness Team); they acknowledge that they are influenced by their own biases, are open to feedback, and commit themselves to active self-reflection.

Shared Values

  1. We recognise our own boundaries and respect those of others.
  2. We do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour. Only ‘yes’ means ‘yes’.
  3. We look out for one another and help each other.
  4. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination.
  5. We resolve conflicts peacefully and without resorting to violence.
  6. We know our limits when it comes to drinking alcohol.

⚠️ Anyone who fails to comply with these rules will be excluded from the event.

ℹ️ Please feel free to contact our Awareness Team if you feel uncomfortable or notice any inappropriate behaviour.
